Eternity

This is a phenomenal shot. I've never been to the pyramids, but this takes me there. Most pictures I've seen of the pyramids try to fill the frame with a single pyramid. By putting all of these in the picture at once, I am confronted with a more profound sense of the size of these monuments. Quite frankly, it's a little frightening.

The photo is well framed. The foreground takes up 2/3rds of the picture, but is filled with nothing but the sand and rocks of the desert. These fade into the middle ground, where the pyramids are perched just on the horizon line, allowing the viewer to see their stunning profiles fully. I like how the sharp angular rocks dissolve into the stylized curve of the hill and triangles of the pyramids. Eventually, the colors just become a gradient wash into the sky.

The pyramids are slightly faded, which keeps this from being a postcard-ready photo. With the atmospheric depth the pyramids look more real, however.

The colors are great in this as well. The complimentary blue and orange, mostly in muted values show a contrast between where the viewer stands, and the infinity of the sky.

The photo is aptly titled. I can't help but think about time as I see the sands of the desert, the weathered pyramids, and the eternal sky. I begin to see what the builders of the pyramids might have been trying to do in order to live beyond their own mortality, their own flat earth. This photograph is mind-opening.
